Hidetoshi Yokoyama, the president of Robot Consulting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo. President: Hidetoshi Yokoyama. Hereinafter “HIKKY”), on the legal outlook in the digital age.

The dialogue discussed the criteria for determining the law on the metaverse, the risks and benefits associated with the use of avatars, and the future prospects for law, avatars and humans.

Yokoyama touched on the possibility of using digital data to detect crimes in advance, pointing out that problems and crimes caused by avatars are controversial because they are “not real”. He also noted that the expansion of communication using avatars may increase the risk of crimes such as child pornography because it is unclear who the other person actually is.

Funakoshi mentioned that current metaverse space operations require a high level of IT literacy, and expressed his view that in the future, as metaverse and digital operations become easier, more people will be able to participate, and with that, various problems may arise.

Virtual Court and Robot Lawyer were also discussed, with the possibility that advances in AI could make decisions more accurate than those of judges and lawyers. Yokoyama opinioned that in a digital society, decentralized laws for each community could create a more comfortable world, transcending vested interests.
