Hidetoshi Yokoyama, the president of Robot Consulting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo. President: Hidetoshi Yokoyama. Hereinafter “Robot Consulting”), held a discussion on “The Future with AI from the viewpoint of Shogi” with Yoshiharu Habu, a shogi player and the chairman of the Japan Shogi Association.

In the dialogue, they discussed new areas created by the entry of AI, the respective changes and developments in the world, law, and AI, as well as ethical issues that will arise beyond the coexistence of humans and AI.

Habu said that the fact that it is now possible to show a certain degree of compass in situations and strategies that have been difficult for humans to explore in depth, as well as in unknown situations and unprecedented situations, is a “new area created by the entry of AI” in Shogi.

However, Yokoyama pointed out that, if AI continues to progress and spread, and humans are only taught to play shogi by AI, this may lead to ethical issues such as “Why do humans play shogi?” and “Why was the culture of Shogi born?”

On the other hand, since advances in AI cannot be stopped, it is important to know to what extent to incorporate them and how to deal with them, Habu said.

Humanity evolves along with AI. How must we live in such a modern age? The answer may lie ahead on the path we continue to walk, paying attention to the changing AI and the world we live in.
