Hidetoshi Yokoyama, the president of Robot Consulting Co. Ltd., Kazuya Maruyama, an attorney at law, and Lully Miura, an international political scientist, had a conversation about “the future of Japan and generative AI”.
Hidetoshi Yokoyama, the president of Robot Consulting Co., Ltd. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo. President: Hidetoshi Yokoyama), Kazuya Maruyama, an attorney at law, and Lully Miura, an international political scientist, discussed the future of Japan and generative AI.
During the discussion, the three panelists shared their expertise in discussing regulations on generative AI in different countries and the future prospects of generative AI in light of political risks and liability issues.
Regarding the Japanese government’s regulations on AI, Miura believes that instead of the old-fashioned punishing one serves as a warning to all the others approach, the government needs to identify problems that are at risk of occurring in advance and develop policies that prevent backtracking from having destructive effects.
“If Web 3.0 is implemented in society, it will become possible to manage personal data between devices, which will make it easier to commercialize personal activities and solve privacy issues.” Yokoyama pointed out.
Maruyama also mentioned the future prospects of AI, and considered that 60-70% of lawyers’ work will be handled by AI in the future due to its efficiency and accuracy. In contrast, Miura pointed to political risks and liability issues in an AI-permeated future. She said that Japan has a strong risk hedging tendency that does not allow for laxity, and that it cannot move as radically as the U.S. when it comes to AI, for which the locus of responsibility is unclear.
Regarding government regulations accompanying the spread of AI, Yokoyama gave the example of virtual humans, saying that while there are positive ways to utilize them, such as realizing communication that would not be possible in real life, he is also concerned about negative ways of misusing them, therefore, he is paying attention to see how far the government will go in regulating such AI services.
